Imagine yourself tucked inside of a house that
can withstand the elements and provide the relaxed comfort of a
well built house. From the experience of many storms and infrequent
earthquakes along the Pacific coast of Washington, the construction
industry has gained much knowledge about construction practices
that provide the best protection from these hazards. These practices
reduce risk of damage to both houses and coastal land. Nevertheless,
risk cannot be eliminated. Code requirements in the state of Washington
have been raised continually over the past few years.
| Houses at Cohasset
Beach more than meet the code requirements. Particular focus
is on preventing wind damage and water infiltration in a
big storm. Drainage is provided throughout the developed
portion of the land. Houses are careully wrapped in Tyvek
or similar wrapping. Tie downs and straps give sturdiness
to the vertical members. The roofing systems are built to
withstand easily the fierce winds that occasionally occur
on the coast. |
