The path into
the land, across the wooded wetlands, leads through an enchanted
forest and opens onto the dunes, grasses, and beach.
No question but the land is a
most unusual piece of real estate in the state of Washington:
| —54 acres |
| —1550 linear feet of ocean shoreline |
Work began in 1994 and took
fourteen years to get the entitlements. The land consisted
of two large parcels, undeveloped. One of the first tasks
was to annex the southern parcel into the city.
The planning process involved
government at all levels: city, county, state, and federal. Many
studies were completed and submitted; many experts were hired to
do scientific work.
The design that was imagined by
owners, architects, and planners, as well as engineers and other
professionals, gradually took shape over the years. All who were
involved were touched by the special nature of the land and wanted
to preserve its mystery. The residential community was designed
to blend the houses with the various features of the land. Poised
between ocean and wetlands, cluster housing kept much of the land
in its original, undisturbed state. One road was to cross the wetlands
onto the property. |
