Landscape: Designing with Ocean, Dunes, Grasses, Vernal Pools

Much of the land was to be preserved in its natural state: the wide beaches (public land) and the wide grass strip along the beach separating the parcels from the beach. On the eastern side of the subdivision are large tracts of wetlands, which must be preserved and protected by the Homeowners Association.

Driving to the Coast

There are essentially three categories of the subdivision that have landcaping and hardscape.

The entryway to the property contains a small monument sign and planting.

The two main roads are designed with center strips and side strips that are planted. These strips are designed to absorb runoff from the roads. Also, each parcel has a 10 foot landscape easement that the Homeowners Association is responsible for.

Public Access to Public Beaches

The three public access paths to the shore cut 8' wide paths from the main north-south road to the beaches. The north and south end paths are left in their original state as sandy paths. The center path contains a cedar boardwalk that extends almost to the beach through the grasses and has two benches at the end of it.
